The Full Story
About
Humboldt Soup’s on was co-founded by Jaime Doyle and Jan Carr in November, 2023. Jaime and Jan came to know the unhoused folks living in Valley West, Arcata as they fed a feral cat colony nearby one of the encampments. They noticed immediately that there were no resources for food for hungry people within walking distance of Valley West. Most of these folks survived by eating out of dumpsters and stealing from local grocery stores. Jaime was accustomed to cooking for large groups of people and rather than being overwhelmed by the issues of the unhoused she asked herself,
“What can I do?”.
The answer was immediate and simple, “I can make soup!”.
On November 9, 2023 Jaime and her sister Melissa Then took that first big pot of soup with homemade bread out and fed 25 people. Jan joined them and offered free spay/neuters for the pets as well as vaccinations and veterinary care. Humboldt Soup’s On evolved and grew quickly to 30 volunteers and they feed 60 unhoused people and their pets daily….. rain or shine!

Humboldt Soups On believes that every human is deserving of compassion, dignity and unconditional love. We serve hot nutritious soups to Humboldt County's unhoused without prejudice or judgement while building trust and extending a hand of fellowship..

age, disability, faith, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity
Vision
Humboldt Soup’s On has a fiscal sponsor currently, Arcata Presbyterian Church. We are working towards our own nonprofit status. Our Vision is to have Soup Trucks that can reach hungry people that are unable to access other food resources. Most importantly, Humboldt Soup’s On is committed to changing the way people see the unhoused.
